REGULATIONS FOR ABNORMAL
TRANSPORT IN FRANCE
ON 1 JANUARY 1993 THE FORMALITIES FOR FREIGHT
TRANSPORT BETWEEN THE VARIOUS MEMBER STATES OF THE
EUROPEAN UNION WERE ABOLISHED IN ONE GO. A UNITED
EUROPE WITHOUT INTERNAL BORDERS BECAME REALITY.
From one moment to the next, commercial vehicles could drive across
borders without having to deal with time-consuming red tape. This does
not yet apply to abnormal transport. The goods don’t have to be cleared
at the border any more but instead there are numerous, often very
detailed regulations for long, wide and heavy transports. Gilles Bisson
is the owner of Digibennes SASu in Anneyron. He looks after several
thousands of applications for exemption in France every year. Gilles
knows the details better than anyone.
